    Tips from a student perspective

    FVOEC student experience

    • Financial Accounting is a favorite for many because of its good structure and excellent pacing. You learn the basic concepts of accounting that will accompany you throughout the program. The workload matches the 6 credits if you have never studied the material; if you already had accounting the workload is smaller (but do not underestimate it—there are negative points). Here are some suggestions:
    • If you did not take accounting in high school, you should definitely buy the book. Abstract concepts are explained in a way that is understandable for those new to accounting.
    • If you already have basic accounting knowledge, not much is new except the cash‑flow statement, ratio analysis, and accounting standards. We recommend investing more time again from week 6, as the material deepens from there.
    • The mock exam is excellent for checking your level. Its structure is very similar to the real exam; use it repeatedly so you can stay calm during the real one.
    • Exercise sessions are worthwhile if you struggle with the material or some topics are not clear immediately. Otherwise you could skip them if you could already solve the exercises on your own (the book contains worked solutions).
    • If you are really short on time: read the script at least two or three times, focusing on the professor’s notes, and try to follow the procedures. If something remains unclear, you are probably not the first to struggle. Check the Q&A to see if someone has asked the same question. If it is not answered, ask in the lecture or exercise. The answer helps you and future students because the Q&A is updated regularly.
